MS Patra

MS Patra, also known as Mild Steel Patra, is a type of steel plate commonly used in construction, structural, and manufacturing applications. The term "Patra" is derived from the Hindi word for "plate," and in this context, it refers to flat, typically rectangular steel products made from mild steel. Mild steel, or low-carbon steel, is known for its ductility, malleability, and ease of fabrication, making MS Patra a versatile material in various industrial and structural applications.

Manufacturing Process

    Steel Production:
  • Raw Materials: MS Patra is made from mild steel, which is produced using a combination of iron ore, coke, and limestone in a blast furnace or an electric arc furnace. The resulting steel is then refined to achieve the desired carbon content, typically around 0.05% to 0.25%.
  • Casting: The molten steel is cast into large slabs, billets, or blooms. These initial forms are then processed into thinner and more manageable sheets or plates.
  • Hot Rolling:
  • Heating: The steel slabs or blooms are heated in a furnace to a high temperature (around 1,700°F to 2,300°F or 925°C to 1,260°C) to make them malleable.
  • Rolling: The heated steel is passed through a series of rollers in a hot rolling mill. This process reduces the thickness of the steel and transforms it into flat plates or sheets. The thickness and width of MS Patra can be customized based on application requirements.
  • Cooling and Finishing:
  • Cooling: After rolling, the steel plates are cooled to room temperature. The cooling process may be controlled to achieve specific mechanical properties.
  • Finishing: The plates are trimmed, inspected, and may undergo additional treatments, such as surface cleaning or coating, to enhance their performance and appearance.

FEATURES

  • MS Patra is available in various thicknesses and dimensions, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including construction, fabrication, and machinery.
  • Mild steel is easy to cut, weld, and machine, which makes MS Patra an ideal material for custom fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • The relatively low cost of mild steel compared to other high-carbon or alloy steels makes MS Patra a budget-friendly option for many applications.
  • MS Patra has good tensile strength, ductility, and impact resistance. However, it is generally not as hard or wear-resistant as higher-carbon steels or alloy steels.
